Tyre wall stickers are one of the most searched car modifications of the past three years and for good reason. They transform the look of a car for less than the cost of a tank of fuel, they're reversible, they work on every tyre brand, and they photograph spectacularly on social media. What are tyre wall stickers?
Raised rubber lettering that adheres directly to the sidewall of your existing tyre. They replicate the look of the branded white-letter tyres you see on muscle cars, track cars and premium fitments from brands like Toyo, Pirelli and Michelin — but on any tyre you already own. The stickers are approximately 1mm thick, multi-layer construction, and are rated to 220mph and UV stable for up to ten years.
The most common question is whether they fall off. Properly installed, they don't. The key is surface preparation — the acetone prep solution that comes with every kit degreases the rubber to a level that creates a permanent molecular bond. Customers who have issues almost always skipped the prep step.
Choosing the right size — the only decision that matters
Getting the size wrong is the only way to ruin the result. Too big and the sticker catches the road when the tyre flexes at speed, which breaks down the adhesive and can damage the sticker. Too small and it looks timid.
The calculation is straightforward. Take your tyre width and multiply it by the profile divided by 100. That gives you your sidewall height in millimetres.
A 225/45 tyre has a sidewall of 225 × 0.45 = 101mm. On a sidewall of 101mm, 25mm is the recommended size — bold, safe, proportionate. Our tyre size calculator does this automatically in seconds. Enter your width and profile and it gives you a recommendation instantly.
As a general rule: profile 35 and below — 15mm maximum. Profile 40 to 50 — 20mm. Profile 45 to 65 — 25mm. Profile 65 and above — 25mm to 30mm.
Which designs are most popular?
The branded designs consistently outsell everything else. Michelin, Yokohama, Hankook, Toyo, Pirelli and BF Goodrich are the most searched. The appeal is that customers get the look of a premium branded tyre without replacing the rubber they already have.
Custom text is the fastest growing segment. Customers are ordering their own name, their car club name, social media handles and even their number plate in tyre lettering. The turnaround is the same as any other kit — we send a proof and cut to order.
Flares — the curved strips that frame the lettering — are popular on widebody builds and stance cars. They add a motorsport finish that makes the lettering look like it was there from the factory.
Installation — what you actually need to know
Every kit from OMI Wheels includes the acetone prep solution, adhesive and a printed guide. You don't need to remove the tyre from the car — most customers install with the wheel still on the vehicle. The process takes about 20 minutes for all four tyres once you've done the first one.
The one recommendation we add: install after the tyre has done at least 200 miles on the road. New tyres have a mould release compound on the surface that reduces adhesion. A few hundred miles of road use wears it off.
Don't use tyre shine products after installation. They're oil-based and will degrade the bond over time.
Tyre stickers for motorbikes
The same product works on motorbike tyres. The size recommendation changes slightly — motorcycle sidewalls curve more aggressively than car tyres so the effective contact zone is smaller. Go one size smaller than the calculator recommends for motorbike fitment. A 180/55 rear motorbike tyre (sidewall 99mm) would normally suggest 25mm but 20mm is safer for the curved profile.
