BMW runs two bolt patterns depending on the generation. This is the single most important thing to check and the thing that catches more buyers out than anything else. Get it right and you have access to the widest range of aftermarket alloys in the premium segment. Get it wrong and nothing fits.

The bolt pattern split — 5x120 versus 5x112

Every BMW up to approximately 2019 runs a 5x120 bolt pattern. The E90 3 Series, F30 3 Series, E60 5 Series, F10 5 Series, E70 X5, F15 X5, E87 1 Series, F20 1 Series — all 5x120. This is a BMW-specific pattern shared with Range Rover, which is why certain prestige wheel designs cross between the two brands.

From 2019 onwards, BMW switched the newer generation models to 5x112 — the same pattern as Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes and most German premium cars. The G20 3 Series (2019 onwards), G30 5 Series (2017 onwards on some variants), F40 1 Series (2019 onwards), G05 X5 (2018 onwards), and G01 X3 (2017 onwards) all run 5x112. This opened up significantly more wheel options at lower price points.

Check your registration against the model code before ordering. If you're not sure, our fitment checker on every product page will verify by bolt pattern, offset and centre bore against your specific model.

Centre bore

BMW hub bore is 72.6mm on most models. The aftermarket standard is often 74.1mm. You will need spigot rings to close this gap — they prevent vibration at speed and protect the hub. Every product listing on our site tells you which rings to order if they're needed.

Offset guide for BMW

The 3 Series runs ET29 to ET45 as standard depending on generation. The 5 Series runs ET29 to ET40. The X5 is ET40 to ET55 on the rear. Going more aggressive (lower ET number) fills the arch more and gives a wider track, but you need to check whether you have M Sport body kit or standard arches — the M Sport kit allows a more aggressive offset without arch catching.

Our BMW fitment wheels

The following all fit the 5x120 BMW range (E and F series) and several also cover the G series 5x112 fitment:

  • 19 inch 5x120 alloy wheels — the most popular size for the F30 3 Series and F10 5 Series. Gives a sporty look without losing too much tyre wall for road comfort.
  • 20 inch 5x120 alloy wheels — for the X5 and 5 Series where the arch can handle the larger diameter. Maximum visual impact.
  • JR Wheels for BMW — JR11 and JR21 in 5x120 are two of the most popular BMW-fitment aftermarket designs available. Understated, strong, available in gunmetal and gloss black.
  • Concaver CVR1 in 5x120 — FlowForm production, TUV certified, 725kg load rating. The upgrade choice for performance builds and M Sport variants where load rating matters.
